Description
A.T. Still University (ATSU) is seeking a full-time exempt Instructional Designer. This position is eligible for a fully remote or hybrid work schedule. Established in 1892 by Andrew Taylor Still, DO, the founder of osteopathy, A.T. Still University of Health Sciences (ATSU) began as the nation's first college of osteopathic medicine and has evolved into a leading university of health sciences comprised of a growing community with a rich history in education and osteopathic healthcare. Today, ATSU offers master's degrees across allied health disciplines; doctorates in athletic training, audiology, health administration, health education, health sciences, medical science, nursing, occupational therapy, and physical therapy; as well as doctorates in dental medicine and osteopathic medicine.

The Teaching & Learning Center (TLC) at ATSU is seeking a collaborative and growth-oriented Instructional Designer to join our high-performing team. Reporting to the Director of the TLC, this role is ideal for an early-career instructional designer looking to sharpen their design, development, and facilitation skills while contributing to high-impact teaching and learning initiatives across the university. With an emphasis on faculty development, the position offers a unique opportunity to work across schools and projects, with mentorship and hands-on experience that accelerates professional growth. This Instructional Designer will contribute to cross-functional projects focused on course development, integrating educational technology, and faculty development programming.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and facilitate a variety of faculty development offerings in collaboration with TLC colleagues, including:
    • Foundational courses in course design, educational technology, and educational research
    • Custom workshops and training sessions tailored to faculty needs
    • Seminar series events focused on current teaching and learning topics
    • Programming that supports the adoption and integration of educational technologies
  • Apply instructional design best practices and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles to support diverse learners and create accessible, inclusive learning experiences.
  • Support faculty in effectively using the Canvas learning management system (LMS), lecture-capturing software, and other educational technology tools.
  • Coach and mentor faculty through 1:1 consultations, teaching observations, and teaching philosophy statement reviews.
  • Stay current with emerging educational technologies and learning science to help faculty adopt evidence-based teaching strategies.
  • Work independently while supporting team collaboration by documenting work clearly and sharing progress regularly with the TLC team.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in instructional design, educational technology, curriculum and instruction, or a related field (or in progress).
  • Minimum of 1 year of instructional design experience or comparable graduate-level coursework/internship in instructional design or academic technology.
  • Comfortable using Google Workspace (Docs, Slides, Sheets, Calendar, Chat) and Zoom for collaboration and content development.
  • Ability to perform basic audio and video editing using tools such as Camtasia, Zoom, or similar.
  • Experience facilitating training, workshops, or professional development for adult learners.
  • Strong passion for contributing to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to use an LMS (Canvas preferred).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Curiosity and a growth mindset.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in developing skills in accessibility and inclusive course design; familiarity with accessibility guidelines (e.g., WCAG, Section 508) is a plus.
  • Experience collaborating on instructional design projects in higher education or professional settings.
  • Teaching experience in higher education, especially online or hybrid, is a strong plus.
  • Familiarity with the backward design and TPACK frameworks.

Compensation & Work Environment

This position is full-time with hybrid and remote work flexibility. This position is eligible for a comprehensive benefits package, with a base salary ranging from $63,000 to $87,523 per year, depending on location, education, and experience level. ATSU is a qualified Public Service Loan Forgiveness employer. ATSU conducts background checks for applicants considered for employment.
